Paxman's famous dual bore F/Bb full double horn in unlacquered nickel-silver (Wow!) with a New World bell.
Simply put, this horn is awesome. The ingenious dual bore design renders resistance even on both sides of the horn. This is achieved by slightly enlarging the bore of the cylindrical F horn tubing so that it offers the same degree of resistance as the Bb side offers when playing the same note. The result of this is a horn which plays with a remarkable smoothness across all registers, irrespective of which side of the instrument you are playing on. This leads to more accurate playing with - dare I say it? - less split notes.
The bell is Paxman's largest - the New World (also called the American bell) - and this produces a BIG, fat, dark, warm, creamy sound very similar to the sound produced by the big Kruspe copy horns from other manufacturers - Conn's 8D, Yamaha's 668 and 862 Custom and Holton's excellent H188. However, the Paxman is a much higher quality instrument than any of these - and they're all fine horns - and has an incredibly secure and 'notchy' high register in addition to all the other excellent attributes which we have come to expect from this top, innovative British manufacturer.
The horn is fitted with a detachable bell and an adjustable pinky hook, and is in almost as-new condition - no dents, no dings, no scratches. Valve compression is perfect and the horn simply plays like a dream. It comes in a high quality coffin-shaped 'Marcus Bonna' type gig bag - also in as-new condition - which has a hard inner shell and shoulder straps.
This is one of the very best horns we have ever played. Stunning!
