Another very rare instrument - a Paxman Model 60 descant horn in Bb and Bb soprano. It's fitted with an A(+) valve and a New World bell so it makes a dark, warm, 8D-like sound. Manufactured in lacquered nickel-silver, it's in excellent condition throughout and has retained most of its lacquer.
The Model 60 is a made-to-order only instrument, and not many have been made (under 1000 in total, I believe). This one comes from the early days at Paxman and will have been made either in the 1960s or 1970s, when Paxman horns were 100% handmade.
It's a specialist horn, obviously, but can also be used as a main, day to day instrument with a 'secret weapon' for the high register! It plays sublimely - a very fine playing horn.
