Alan, You may recall you stopped me buying a student horn and sold me a Holton 280. It was remiss of me not to email you earlier to say a big thank you. My 12 year old daughter is in a couple of ensembles and the conductors of each and her horn teacher are extremely impressed with the sound. You may also recall it was a chap called John Larvin who recommended you to me. I got him to have a blow and his opinion was it’s a horn he would find very easy to live with. So thanks again for your advice and excellent service. Cheers,
Vilda Kuby, UK
Alan: The horn arrived yesterday right on schedule in perfect condition. I was very busy yesterday and it wasn't until today that I was able to play it. Thus far great satisfaction and I look forward to playing the upper part in one of Vivaldi's Concerto in F for two horns a few weeks from now. The real test for me - not the horn. Thanks for the very neat additions (duck's foot and adjustable pinky hook) and all the information you sent to me.
Best wishes, Norman C Greenberg, North Carolina, USA
Dear Alan,
I have received the horn and it is simply fabulous. The learning curve will be somewhat steep at first for sure, but I am looking forward to it. I am very happy. Just hoping I can step up to such a capable instrument...
Thanks and best regards.

Hi Alan, Just to let you know, the Alex arrived today. And what do I think? Well it's the same horn in appearance and that's where everything changes when I put it to my lips. It blows beautifully - lovely big, fat, rich sound. The Alex sound of olden days only much, much better. Top register is super. I played it during lunch hour and didn't want to put it down. Middle reg is pure, smooth and round and pedal notes really strong and powerful, as I discovered after blasting out that low bit from Shostakovich 5. Valves move like lightening so all in all you have done a superb job on my Alex. I'm really pleased with the work done so roll on next band and orchestra practice. Best of luck to you both in the future. You are very welcome to use this as a testimonial if you wish... PS.. Tone blob is a great addition in aiding tone projection and volume. What more could I want?
Regards for now, Vince McArdle, Co Louth, Eire
Hi Alan, I am very happy with the horn, you provide a very useful service to the community. Please feel free to use me as a reference. David Dreyfuss, Connecticut, USA
Hi Alan, Hope you had the best of Christmas and the new year. I have played the 861 for a few weeks now and want to report that it is everything you told me it would be and I am very satistied. The intonation is excellent, upper range super-good, and I like the brighter sound. It will exactly fill my church large and small group playing requirements. Anyway, thanks a lot for all of your help. The horn was a good choice for me.
Doug Wonder, Nashville, TN, USA
Hi Alan!
Just had to email you straight away and tell you that I do not recognise the horn! Whose is it? It is so fantastic to play on, that it must belong to someone else ;-) Many grateful thanks for the magic you wrought within its fragile alloy! The high notes are centred and easy to produce. My mid-stave D is easy on the chops too and generally the horn is effortless to play compared to how it was before being ''Wiltshired'' ... you are indeed a Merlin of the horn :-)

Hello Mr. Wiltshire,
My horn arrived yesterday afternoon. Thank you so much for all the useful care information you included - very much appreciated. The horn was delayed at customs for a few days until all the paper work got sorted out. You might be interested to know that I did not have to pay extra duty -just the provincial and federal sales taxes which total 4%, so I was pleased about that.
I am delighted with my Yamaha horn. This is such a busy time of year and I haven't had as much time as I want to really test it out. However, I have played it a bit and know already that it will be perfect for my needs. It is a beautiful looking instrument as well and is a good size for me. The sound quality is excellent and I do enjoy playing it. I can't wait to test it out with the band at our next rehearsal in January.
I teach deaf children and the Christmas break is about to start in a few days so it won't be long until I can devote extra day time hours to playing and getting to know the horn well. I am curious about the age and history of the horn. If you have some background information, I would really like to know more about it, if possible.
Thanks again for all your advice and assistance in choosing this horn for me. I love it!
Merry Christmas!
Joy Castello Ontario, Canada
Hi Alan, Didn't get around to emailing you again after the horn and the mouthpiece came. But the horn is great. It sounds wonderful and is a joy to play. I play it when my mom tells me to do my homework and then she's quite. It's now relitively easy to play in the upper registers and I now find myself trying songs and octive higher or lower than I usualy play them with the megafied range I get with the thumb trigger. Its really fun. We deffinately got our moneys worth, thanks a million.

Hello Alan The ToneBlob has arrived today. Thank you. I have already mounted it to my horn and tried it, of course. It really makes a big difference and is an excellent upgrade for my horn.
Regards from Switzerland, Stephan Affolter
Hi Alan, I just wanted to let you know that the horn arrived this morning. I have attached some photos of the happy box opening events that occurred after school today. :)

Spencer loves the way it sounds, and so do we. Many thanks for your work!
Becca Koscik, Madison, USA Mr. Wiltshire,
I got my horn a few weeks ago, and honestly, I was too busy to sit down and email you, but I just wanted to say that the Schmid that I received is in every way perfect for me (or anybody, for that matter!). I cannot thank you enough!
It is so responsive, has an incredible tone, light in weight, has such smooth slurring, a meaty low register, and--most important for me--a much easier and more supple high register. I am more than pleased. I am in awe...I never knew such horns existed, haha!
Anyways, I just can't stop singing praises! Thanks, and I wish you the best!
Svetlana Timoshkin, Cincinnati, USA
Hi again, Alan! I got the horn, and it seems to be a wonderful instrument. I just played a new 20 and a 23 with Europa bells in a shop in southern Norway, but I would say I like the sound of the single better, so thanks. Did you change the springs, it seems to have much more tight springs than I am used to. Will get used to it though. All in all I am really satisfied with the deal. I`ve tried to compare it both to single and double Hoyers which I have, but this one is in a much higher league. Therefore I thank you for all your help. Hope I can come back to you if there are any problems. Don’t know if I have mentioned it, but I really think your service has been excellent and extremely professional. Hope I can have more to do with you in the future.
Best, Stein Karlsen, Norway
Hi Alan,
I wanted to thank you again for all of your help finding the right horn for my daughter. We bought her horn (a Yamaha) in late October of 2005 and she has been delighted with it from the first time she played it. She was a beginner at the time we purchased her horn but we noticed that she seemed to have a lot more confidence with her abilities once she started playing the Yamaha. She seems to learn much easier than her classmates, especially in the higher range. We think that is probably the horn. You explained that the right horn would make a difference.
Christi will be starting high school next year and recently auditioned for high school band and orchestra placement. She attends a rather large school and her junior high band had 280 kids with approximately 110 moving into high school next fall. There will be three concert bands next year with the three bands combining to form a large marching band. She auditioned very well and will be in the top symphony, made of mostly upper classmen as either first or second chair. Most of her classmates will be in the 3rd band (concert band). Her older brother was pretty happy for her. He will be a senior (trumpet I) and next years head drum major for the marching band. Thanks again. Susanne Daniel Ozark, Missouri USA
Hi Alan,
I got the horn today and it is great! It's very responsive and projects wonderfully, and has a great centered sound. I love playing it! It plays very differently from my Holton (but much better!) Thank you for the tips on taking care of the valves. I need to buy some Blue Juice this week, but I'm not familiar with 3 in 1 oil. I'll try to find it. Thank you so much for all of the help with getting the horn. It was a very educational and helpful process!
Jonathan Glover, USA Hi Alan,
My son absolutely adores the new horn and his playing and scales have improved 20 fold on the pile of rubbish that the school supplied him with. I will try and get a picture of him playing the “silver beast”, if I can stop him grinning for one minute! The duck's foot has helped him no end and he is just so positive now.
I would have no hesitation in recommending you to anyone who either needs help or wants to purchase an instrument – you have been kind, considerate and helpful from day one – thank you. I wish you well with your business and will no doubt be speaking to you in the future as Sean goes for an upgrade – when he can pay for it himself!!!!!
Clive Davies, UK Hi Alan, The horn arrived this morning… and it’s a beauty! I haven’t had a chance to have a good play yet, but I am amazed how easy it is to play in the high register compared to what I've been using…. I just kept going up and up, its brilliant. A beautiful sound, and the f side moves seamlessly into the Bb side. Im very pleased.
Thanks, and thanks for a cracking recommendation.

Hello Alan,
I very much enjoyed my trip to Gloucester a week ago, and of course the outcome! I have delayed getting in touch again as I wanted to be able to tell you about the chamber music day I had on Saturday - the new instrument's first real outing. It was fantastic - and I didn't do too badly either! Large quantities of music were consumed between 9.30 and 6.00! Spohr Nonet, Mozart E flat & C minor octets, Beethoven Octet (2nd horn with all those arpeggios), Ravel Tombeau de Couperin (arr for wind dectet), and Mozart Piano & Wind Quintet to finish!!
It is a different world now for me, and I am so glad I did at last what I have been thinking of for years! Should have done it sooner of course in one way, but on the other hand it is only now that I have the time to practice that it is really worth while.
So all in all a great improvement, and a very happy (Paxman) customer!
Thanks again!
Tim Kendal, UK Hi there Alan!
My ToneBlob arrived in the post today, and is excellent! Even in the few minutes playing I’ve done so far, I’ve noticed a great improvement – a real confidence boost!
Many thanks, Mike Tupper, UK
Cheers Alan!
Serendipitously, I received my ToneBlob in the mail today right after I emailed you earlier. Wouldn't you know.
I like it! I tested it out on the Paxman tonight and it does all the things it's touted to do - of course the horn is great to begin with but the blob makes the tone even notchier and fuller, more secure, and provides the extra darkness (in my mind) and projection that I desired. It was a little difficult to decide whether to put it on the 2nd or 3rd rotor - they were both pretty close in sound quality (compared to 1 and the change valve) - but in the end I decided on the 3rd.
Thanks for a great product! I'm happy I purchased it.
Richard Weiss, New York
Hi Alan, I've been missing my computer for a few days, completely crashed and had to go to the "data hospital." But now that I have it back, I want to tell you more just about what I love about this horn. I know you realize this stuff, but bear with me because I really want you to know why I am so happy. First, and this sounds a bit arrogant, sorry, I didn't know I could play so well. No more fishing expeditions! That's what nice note centers will do for you, huh? It is so responsive as well. The lower register, what I'm currently capable of reaching, comes out SO much easier and speaks so much better.
Thanks again so much!

USA Hi Alan,
I just wanted to tell you how much I am enjoying the Alex 107. I bought it from you a few months ago but only recently had the chance to play it in an orchestra. A friend of mine was conducting Beethoven 7 and asked me to play. I had a wonderful time! The Alex is so solid I didn't miss a single high B! I had some trusted colleagues in the audience who assured me I had a great sound and good intonation. They also said I made the high notes seem effortless. As a longtime 8D player that was something I had never heard. I am still getting used to the horn but so far everything is working beautifully. I can't wait to take some auditions with it.
Thanks again for all of your help in choosing and buying this horn.
Reneé Menkhaus, Chicago, USA
Dear Alan,
The horn arrived today and I just love it! You were right in describing it as free-blowing. I'm very pleased with it being in such good tune across the sides of the horn. It truly is a gem. Thank you so much for all of your help. Having the two bells really will be a kick. I can't wait to go where I usually play and see the difference between the two, as it is even pretty obvious in my living room. Thanks again! Marianne Giesler, Denver, Colorado, USA
Hi Alan!
I just wanted to let you know the Alex arrived yesterday. I played it for about an hour without realizing it! I really like the sound and I am excited to get to know this horn as well as my Conn. Everything is working fine. Thanks so much for this whole process. I really think this horn is going to give me a versatility as a freelancer that I never thought was possible.
Thanks again!
Reneé Menkhaus, Chicago, USA
Alan,
I received my new Paxman yesterday afternoon, and I am very excited about it! It looks as good as new, and plays beautifully, as you promised. Thank you so much for finding this horn for me! Within one hour of getting the horn, I was off to play a brass quintet gig on it, and it played great! All of the guys in the quintet were really impressed with the horn, and thought I sounded good on it. Thanks again, Alan!

Hi Alan,
Just to say that the ToneBlob is everything I expected; my lower register, which has always been compromised in tone and power, is now being regularly referred to in a most complimentary manner. I have more carrying power, the tone is rock solid with no wavering in pitch at higher dynamic levels and the instrument really feels like a big brother Alex double in some respects. I play a lot of work in ensemble with church organs and large congregations (in sometimes confined seating circumstances) and my baby Alex single Bb/A(+)/F ext is punching above its weight now and being heard, and powerfully.
If you care to use my comments for referral purposes, you certainly have my blessing! Thank you so much for making these indispensable accessories available to us all...
Julian Begg, South Africa
Hi Alan,
I have finally had a chance to put the new horn to some serious work and I must say that I am very pleased. When I say "put to work" I really do mean it; I played 1st in a concert that included Don Juan yesterday. The horn does exactly what I wanted it to do that my Geyer didn't; in the extreme dynamics the edgy sound is perfect. It doesn't ever get ugly at all like my Geyer did because of the small bell. The conductor and members of my section commented that my tone was much less harsh and more refined in the loud passages than before. You were very right in saying this is a very sophisticated horn. It has a very wide range of tone colors to choose from rather than the sort of "on or off" effect I got with the Geyer. I can easily choose how much edge I want in the sound and I can't overblow it. It even gets that nice fizzy sound in piano if I want it to. It does take a little more effort to play than the Geyer, but this is compensated for by having all of the notes slot in exactly the right places. (No more funny G!) Overall, I think I made a very good choice. (Though I am drooling over that Rauch you just put up in your sales gallery. It will be a long time before I will be able to afford one of those...)
Regards, Shawn Henry, Chicago, USA
Hi Alan, Thanks for following up with me. It is greatly appreciated. The horn arrived in great shape just as you indicated it would. It is indeed exquisite. From the contrast of the rose brass to the nickel slide receptors, to the engraved valve caps, to the incredible quality, I can't say enough. To compare it to the Conn from an appearance and quality standpoint would be unfair. They are not even in the same league. You certainly get what you pay for. Besides a few odd blemishes here and there, this horn is in outstanding shape. It reminds me of a fine piece of jewellery.
This horn speaks very easily. Very little effort is required compared to the 8D. Also, the high register on the Bb side is so much easier. To your point, the tighter valves really make a difference. Response is also extremely crisp. I love how the horn plays.
Overall, getting used to the Bb fingerings was not as bad as I originally anticipated. My speed is improving daily.
I haven't really had a need to use the F alto side of the horn (except for a bit in practice) because the Bb side is certainly secure enough for my needs. So to summarize, am I disappointed in my purchase? Absolutely not! The horn plays exactly like you described. It has allowed me to try a horn with tighter valves and I now know for sure this is what I want. I am also a far better Bb horn player than I ever was and am making progress daily. By the way, I decided to play the Conn again after playing the Alex for several weeks now and I can't believe how difficult the Conn is to play. It's amazing how much extra energy I have been unnecessarily expending all these years. Thanks again for everything. You have been awesome throughout this entire process.
Best Regards, Rick Nadeua, Pennsylvania, USA
Hello Alan, My ToneBlob arrived yesterday afternoon and of course I installed it right away and did a shake down. I found the best position for it pretty quickly and I can tell the difference in the tone. The notes on the whole horn seem more centered and secure. The high register in particular is more secure. I have an Eastlake 8D and it appears to be a pretty good version of this particular horn.
Thanks very much for the service you do. I really like the ToneBlob and I think that it will be a factor in my recovery from several years of not playing.
Sincerely, Marvin Collins Tucson, AZ USA
Hi Alan,
The Hoyer arrived this afternoon, wrapped, as promised, to survive an earthquake. I don't think I'll be needing to buy any bubble wrap or foam peanuts for the next decade. Heather is thrilled and even I (the musically hopeless) can hear the difference in sound quality. Her new horn teacher seems excited to get his hands on it as well. So, it's a joyous day at our house and we thank you very much for your help in making this happen. Thanks once again; I'm sure we'll be in touch in the future.
All the best, Rod Dolmage, Regina, Canada
Hello Alan,
I just wanted to let you know that Max received his horn just a couple of days after our last contact. He is soooooooooo happy with it. I have attached a photo for you to look at. This was taken just after he unwrapped his new horn. Max is working on his new instrument and can produce some remarkably good sounds already. When he saw his new Besson, he said that it was well worth waiting for!

It's been a great experience dealing with you. I searched all over America for months and not only were you the only one we could find with the instrument we wanted, you were the only one we talked to that was experienced enough to actually help with our choice. You were a delight to work with, and without your experience, I hate to think what kind of horn/experience we would have wound up with! Thanks to you Max has a much better chance of a bright future with the French horn.
Thank you so much for everything!
Joy Radabaugh, Texas, USA
Good evening Alan,
I take your views as pearls of wisdom. I have come to the conclusion that any expressions of your thoughts are the next closest thing to having God whisper in my ear. By that, I mean I accept your expertise, objectivity and integrity as being in my best interest, without any ulterior motives on your part. I can only thank you profusely.
Sincerely, Gerald Kolinsky, Grand Rapids, USA
Dear Alan, This is a wonderful, very thorough and explicit response - right on the mark, beautifully conceived and presented. Thank you for your thoughtfulness!
All best regards,
Chris Wilhjelm, Washington State, USA
Alan, It's too bad I'm not in the UK. I would have to hire you for some lessons. Absolutely outstanding, as always. Thanks! Rick Nadeau, Pennsylvania, USA
Hi Alan,
The horn is splendid, everything I was hoping for. Thanks for your efforts, and glad everything has worked out so well.
PS: Just played used Yamaha and Holton triples at Osmun's shop. My Paxman from you is fantastically much better. It makes me feel fortunate it turned out so well sight unseen.
Dan Hrdy, California, USA
Thank you, Alan! My horn arrived last night. I just want you to know how much I appreciate your candid advice and help with this decision. I am delighted with the sound and quality of the instrument. Oh Alan, you have made my day! Thank you. Amen. I can't wait to really play the horn like it deserves to be played. Thanks again for all of your patience and expert advice; I am a customer for life.
Julie Block, North Carolina, USA
Hello Alan,
I just wanted to let you know the horn arrived here Monday and I've been so busy playing it I didn't pause to let you know! It really sounds fantastic. My wife described the sound in even more colorful terms, and she's not easy to impress! Thanks again and hope to do more business with you in future.
Best Regards, John Pillow California, USA
Hi Alan,
First, I wanted to wish you happy holiday - may you and yours live and enjoy the spirit of the season!
It seems to be the time of year when we reflect on the events and developments of the year. I'm certainly reflecting on many things, but perhaps I'll remember this year mostly because of meeting you and finding the Scherzer.
What an amazing horn. It is certainly everything you mentioned in your description, but it plays so much larger than I thought a Bb could play and sound. I must say I am overwhelmed with how it plays. What I appreciate so much though is that the instrument has so many available colors and it is so fast on its feet. Simply put, I feel so very lucky and I'm thanking you again, Alan, for taking the time to help an old guy with the dream of playing again.
So, my best wishes for the holidays and a great new year.
Joe Kruger USA
Hey there Alan, This is Nathanael (I bought a Paxman descant from you). I just absolutely love my horn! It has taken me to so many levels! Over the summer I played with the Canadian Brass and then I was offered to become Jeff Nelsen's students (he is from the Canadian Brass).
Nathanael Udell, New Jersey, USA
Dear Alan,
Thank you very much for the talk and very good advice that you gave me on buying my new horn. I have now done two big concerts with the Holton and I have found it absolutely exellent. Thanks again.
Jim Jacques, Blackpool UK
Hi Alan,
The Scherzer has been delivered. It has arrived without damage in transit. The horn was packed so well that I can't imagine damage occurring except by crushing or some other extroardinary occurence.
This horn is truly marvelous. It is just as you represented. The Bb side has the sound and response that is all of what I wanted; and the F extension blows freely and has an open and smooth sound. All this with the facility and colors that feel and sound right to me!! This Scherzer is exactly what I wanted but really couldn't have described in words before I played it. Somehow you read through the lines of our correspondence and understood what I was looking for. I need to work with the hand position (my hand feels just a little too large) and get all the fingerings programmed into my head. Past that, the horn feels really right in my hands, not too light and not too heavy.
Great Job, Alan.
Best Regards, Joe Kruger USA
Hi Alan, This is just to let you know that my horn has arrived safely this morning. Now.....the horn.....WOW!! I love it!!! It is beautiful to look at, lovely to play, and my husband says it sounds fantastic. It certainly feels very clear and easy to play compared to the Alex. I think I will be playing it all day!! Thanks again for all your help and advice, it's been a pleasure to do business with you.
Kind regards, Meredith Boyle Australia
Yes !! My new horn arrived last Friday. And I'm very pleased with the instrument! It plays easily and the intonation is good. Nice sound in all parts of the register. Valves work as new.... My tutor was impressed - he's a Paxman man and was highly skeptical to this American horn. We're now both conviced that I've made an excellent buy. I'll have no problem recommending hornsAplenty! Best wishes, Eva Hirsti Tromso Norway I just received my HornBlob and all I can say is WOW!!!!! What an immediate difference. I am usually skeptical when it comes to items like this, but it is everything you say and more! Everyone needs to buy one! Thanks again and I wish you and Tony all the best. Tom Muller Gresham Oregon USA top The horn that I got from hornsAplenty was quite up to par. The valves are just as slick and silent as I hoped, and all the slides work well and are well cleaned. The horn is very responsive in the high register, and is, now that I am getting used to it, very responsive in the lower register as well. Mr. Wiltshire gave me some very useful hints on playing and making sound in general. He was very prompt in answering every email I gave him with every inquiry of which I could think. The horn came to my house with incredible speed! I was very surprised as to the hastiness with which I received my delivery. I enjoyed working with Mr. Alan Wiltshire not only because he was funny and smart but also because when I was working with him, it was like I was only working with him....as if he didn't have a huge job to do with other customers. He was very assuring of my purchase, and worked with me very much to help me get the best deal and help get me the best horn that I could get for the money I had. He never ceased to amaze me with his devotion to me. I was very astounded at his professionalism. I was a little shaky at first, as it was my first major horn purchase, but he was very assuring and after I got the horn, there were no doubts. I always will recommend Mr. Wiltshire for horn purchases (of any make, model, or brand) and, if ever I need another horn after this one, I'm sure I'll be back! Thank you, Alan Wiltshire. Aaron Laws Oklahoma USA top Dear Alan Just thought I would let you know that the horn has arrived safely and in mint condition. I have never received a more securely wrapped package and the miles of bubble wrap has certainly kept the cat amused! The horn is a dream and without doubt the best instrument I have played. Also excellent is the crispness of the valves which feel as though they ought to belong to a brand new instrument and not on a second hand one. I would like to thank you for all your help and expert guidance throughout the purchase of this beautiful instrument and I have no hesitation in recommending your company to anyone thinking of buying a horn. It is a pity that more so called specialist companies (you know who you are!) do not offer anywhere near the expertise of hornsAplenty.com ! Rod Smith Watford Herts top Wow!! It was like setting off a stick of dynamite when I launched into the Beethoven Seventh passages. Incredible power, and a projection of sound so easy that, for the first time ever, I was entirely satisfied with the power potential just waiting to be used. I have an idea that I'll keep discovering new things about it for a long time to come. I am so very happy with the horn, Alan. It not only sounds wonderful, but it also feels 'just right,' which I have never felt before. I think that anyone who buys a horn from hornsAplenty.com is so lucky, more than they may ever realise, and the help which you have given me has meant a great deal. I have written to you as a testimonial to the excellence of your horns and your service, Alan. I wish you all the greatest success possible. Thank You. Jim Kenward Sacramento CA USA top Dear Alan, The sound was exactly what I was looking for, the intonation was very good, and it was incredibly notchy and easy to play, with a great f-alto side. Now, after about a week, I understand that it is more subtle to play, but also that it give me a lot more of possibility and colours (and it doesn't have so much resistance: it is more a matter of control of the air). My articulation is better than ever and my dynamic range is also greater than before. I play in a studio box in my apartment and yesterday my wife came to see if the door was closed! I also begin to see the advantages of playing an instrument which needs less air. But what impresses me the most of this horn is the sound: in every dynamic always incredibly warm, round and dark but always compact. I feel it is a "old" sound which has unfortunately almost disappeared (I would like to know why?) and impossible to obtain with the "new generation" of apparently more easy-to-play instruments. And this is really THE sound I was dreaming of. I am still not very agile, especially in a loud dynamic, and sometimes I still want to put too much air in it, but it is getting every day better and I am only at the beginning of the discovery of a new world I thought was lost. I thank you many, many times for providing me with this wonderful horn. I wish you all the best. Matteo Ravarelli Bern Symphony Orchestra Switzerland top Dear Alan I picked up the horn and went directly to a reading session with an organist at his church. We read through pieces and selected some for a solo performance later this month. I took the horn out of the case, applied my mouthpiece and lips and WOW! What a beautiful sound! I needed to play a few bars to get the hang of the intonation...I'll fine tune it for myself later...but after that I had a wonderful time playing it and making music too! It's a fine horn. It's exactly as you described. You were accurate in your condition report and certainly on how it plays. It really has a wonderful sound. I'm going to enjoy finding places and ensembles where it will really shine...Thanks for finding it and thinking of me. Ron Friedman Columbia Maryland USA top I took delivery of the horn today, and I have to say it is awesome! After about five minutes of warm up and five playing around on the horn I have decided that under no circumstances will I ever play another American horn! The horn is absolutely superb, light-years ahead of my Holton. I will definitely be recommending Paxman horns, and your services in particular, to anyone looking for a fantastic new horn. This horn is really amazing - after warming up a little I was able to just belt out gorgeous, fat high Cs! Like I said before I love the horn and I will definitely be recommending your services. Many thanks, Shawn Henry Longmont USA top My new horn just landed today and it is totally fab! It was not damaged at all – just as you said, it came wrapped up like a baby. But the most fantastic thing is the way you guys listened to me, analysed what I was really looking for – rather than what I thought would enable me to do what I wanted – and then came up with the very horn to enable me to achieve it. And you were right! Your Alan Wiltshire must be some kind of horn guru! Seriously, I’m really grateful and I will be playing my new Paxman forever! Thanks a million! Albert Feuchtenberger Chicago USA top My Alexander 103 it arrived today in Osaka. I send deepest greetings of respect and thanks for your wonderful horn. It is most marvellous and my playing already it is best! My respectful thanks Tadaki Ishiguru Osaka Japan top Dear Mr Wiltshire: Thanks so much for your incredible advice and help in the purchase of my Paxman Model 40. I’d always wanted to get that big, fat, Hollywood sound and thought you could only do it with an 8D, along with all the associated high-range difficulties. How wrong I was! Now I sound like Myron Bloom but I don’t split high notes. Not that he did, mind you. But I used to. And your ‘lessons’ on right hand technique have revolutionised my playing – I now know that I can sound bright or dark as I choose. You should be some horn professor or something! Cordially Scott Meyer Michigan USA top My Yamaha 668 is simply wonderful! It arrived today and was in perfect condition – all the way to Adelaide! Thanks so much – I love it! Alison Sanderling Adelaide Australia top Gentlemen: As you are doubtless aware, I have now bought several horns from you and the latest of these – a Paxman triple – arrived this morning. I cannot emphasise how delighted I am to be the proud new owner of this wonderful French horn. The gold brass and large bore together produce the most superb sound and the valves are ‘slick and silent’ – just as you said. I don’t know which of the horns I’ve bought from you I love the most – today it is the Paxman triple, yesterday it was the Alexander 103, tomorrow…who knows? As always, my inquiries have been handled courteously and knowledgeably by your Alan Wiltshire and on value for money alone you simply cannot be beaten. All praise hornsAplenty.com! John Rogers - Jones Cardiff UK I have just received my 'new' Paxman Model 40 from Alan Wiltshire at hornsAplenty.com. I am absolutely delighted with the instrument, and am really impressed with the incredibly high standard of workmanship that has been lavished on this twenty year old instrument. It looks and feels as if it has just been made. The whole stress-free process has taken just over a week form first enquiry to delivery. I would urge horn players, wherever they may be, to avail themselves of this first class service. Alan is a mine of information and has the insight of a seasoned professional. You can take his word that what you want is what you will get. Here you have one very satisfied hornist, and everyone knows we are a difficult bunch to please!! The horn and I got through Superstar, not missing a single top B or C. Quite a testament to the readiness of the horn for real work!!!! I wish Alan and Tony every success with their future endeavours. Simon St John Locke MMus BA (Hons) Derby UK Professional horn player for over 30 years
Hi Alan,
Wow! What an instrument! I'm really impressed with the sound and the ease with which it speaks. I see what you mean about the alternative fingerings - thanks very much! Dr David Edwards Denbighshire, UK
