Notice we say horns – plural. There is no one horn that ideally provides for all playing circumstances – that’s why professionals always have several horns. But there will be a horn that is ideal for you in that it will provide best for the various aspects that determine its choice: the kind of playing you are mostly involved in, your level of achievement, your aspirations, the style of horn you prefer (single, F/Bb double, descant, triple etc), the sound you want to make and lastly, your budget. Once these elements have been thoroughly analysed, we will either have your new horn already – in which case you can just buy it – or, if not, we will find it for you. We photograph each horn and we are super-critical about any superficial damage or cosmetic imperfections. If there is a scratch or a pin dent on your horn, you will know all about it before buying. You’ll know how big it is, how deep it is, and exactly where it is. If there is any damage to an instrument which in any way adversely affects its playing characteristics, this will have been repaired in our workshops long before you even heard of the horn. But sometimes a horn may have a very slight scratch, or some peeling lacquer or something, which simply does not affect its playing qualities at all. These are used horns, after all. In this event, any imperfections of this sort will be fully and accurately described to you long before you buy the instrument. top Right! I want to buy a horn!
