ThumbnailThis is a recent Hoyer full F/Bb double in great condition - not perfect condition: there are a few tiny blemishes. But really nothing much at all.

It's a Kruspe wrap horn, but with a medium-large bell. It plays very freely and makes a perky yet warm sound.

It comes with a hard case, also in great condition.

ThumbnailThis is a Hoyer Model 4801 Mark II. It's a Geyer style full F/Bb double with a screw bell. It's lacquered (and the lacquer is maybe 95+% intact - very good indeed) and it's in excellent condition throughout with just a couple of tiny (and I do mean TINY) superficial blemishes.

The bell is a medium-large - in true Geyer tradition - and very similar to Paxman's hugely successful and highly sought-after Europa bell. So it makes a classic Chicago sound: bright, perky, fizzy yet warm and noble. It plays beautifully.

This is a lovely, inexpensive professional horn ideally suited to a young professional player or advanced student or amateur.

ThumbnailThese great little horns are really effortless and reliable to play. They make a bright, perky sound and, although student instruments, some professionals use them - they're that good. Surely the best student horn on the market.

This one is in excellent, almost as-new, condition save for some slight creasing around the bell throat. It comes in the usual, black Yamaha case which is also in excellent condition.

ThumbnailAnother fine example of Paxman's awesome, best-selling double horn. These wonderful instruments are used by top players worldwide. This example has a medium bell, producing a bright, perky yet warm and sophisticated sound rich in overtones. The horn plays flawlessly - as you'd expect - and is secure and even across all registers. Paxman's wonderful workmanship renders this a top class horn which is a joy to play: excellent, 'notchy' high register, warm, fluid mid register and a free-blowing and meaty low register.

Around 15 years old, it is showing slight signs of wear and tear - reflected in the price - but nothing which in any way detracts from how superbly it plays. The lacquer is mostly intact, the valve compression is perfect and it comes in a hard, Paxman style case in good condition.

Price is only £2450 GB Pounds.

ThumbnailPaxman's famous dual bore F/Bb full double horn in unlacquered nickel-silver (Wow!) with a New World bell.

Simply put, this horn is awesome. The ingenious dual bore design renders resistance even on both sides of the horn. This is achieved by slightly enlarging the bore of the cylindrical F horn tubing so that it offers the same degree of resistance as the Bb side offers when playing the same note. The result of this is a horn which plays with a remarkable smoothness across all registers, irrespective of which side of the instrument you are playing on. This leads to more accurate playing with - dare I say it? - less split notes.

The bell is Paxman's largest - the New World (also called the American bell) - and this produces a BIG, fat, dark, warm, creamy sound very similar to the sound produced by the big Kruspe copy horns from other manufacturers - Conn's 8D, Yamaha's 668 and 862 Custom and Holton's excellent H188. However, the Paxman is a much higher quality instrument than any of these - and they're all fine horns - and has an incredibly secure and 'notchy' high register in addition to all the other excellent attributes which we have come to expect from this top, innovative British manufacturer.

The horn is fitted with a detachable bell and an adjustable pinky hook, and is in almost as-new condition - no dents, no dings, no scratches. Valve compression is perfect and the horn simply plays like a dream. It comes in a high quality coffin-shaped 'Marcus Bonna' type gig bag - also in as-new condition - which has a hard inner shell and shoulder straps.

This is one of the very best horns we have ever played. Stunning!

ThumbnailA superb, as-new Paxman compensator (only a couple of years old) in unlacquered yellow brass with a detachable medium bell. No patches, no dents, no scratches. This horn is lightweight to hold, every bit as good as any Paxman full double, and plays just like one. Excellent for the player who does lots of opera work - long shows - or for the player of a slighter build who wants a lightweight but nevertheless excellent, fully professional F/Bb double.

This horn is fitted with a hand-stopping valve which works only on the Bb side of the instrument. It comes in a high quality, flat, hard Paxman case in black.

ThumbnailThis is another truly wonderful horn. It's Paxman's famous, full double descant horn in Bb/A(+)/F alto. This is the later model which employs switchable leadpipes for each side of the instrument, but also a switchable piece of bell taper which is provided for the F alto horn. Richard Merewether's fiendishly clever design incorporates these sophisticated changes automatically as you play. It's for this reason that there is a change valve in the bell spout, located above the left hand playing position. When you operate the change valve to move onto the F alto horn, this valve cuts out a piece of the Bb horn's bell taper and replaces it with a more acoustically correct, smaller piece of bell taper designed specially for the F alto horn. The change valve also operates two different continuation leadpipe pieces - one for each side of the horn - which are joined, via the change valve, onto the common piece of initial leadpipe taper. The purpose is so that you are using the most theoretically (and practically) correct lengths and tapers of leadpipe at all times, whatever side of the horn you are using. It's a design masterpiece! And - needless to say - it plays just superbly.

This example is in unlacquered yellow brass with a detachable, large bell. So it makes a dark, warm, noble sound. The general condition is good - not excellent (it does have the odd, slight blemish) - but the playing condition is first class. The horn comes in black, flat, hard Paxman case, also in good condition.

ThumbnailAnother fine example of Paxman's best-selling - and wonderful - full F/Bb double horn. This instrument was manufactured in 2003 and is in as-new condition - no dings, no scratches, lacquer 100% intact.

It's in yellow brass with a fixed, medium bell and it has titanium rotors - Wow!

Of course, it plays superbly and will make its lucky new owner very happy. It comes in a high quality, black Paxman case which is also in excellent condition.

ThumbnailAlexander's famous, best-selling full F/Bb double horn in lacquered yellow brass with a detachable bell. In superb condition, this instrument plays just like it should: bright, fizzy sound at high dynamics, wonderful, warm middle register, and fruity, mellow low register. All the notes are in their right places and this is a comfortable - but exciting - horn to play.

As used by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, amongst many others.

ThumbnailThis is an unusual example of Alexander's legendary descant horn which has an in-built F extension. This instrument was hand-made to special order and is built to an even higher standard of craftsmanship than is usual from this fine German manufacturer. The maker has engraved his signature on the F alto tuning slide receptor and dated the instrument 1982.

It's made in lacquered gold brass (lacquer virtually 100% intact) and has a detachable bell. The condition is excellent and, of course, the horn plays superbly in all registers. It comes in a brand new 'Marcus Bonna' style volcano-shaped case.

Not to beat about the bush, this horn is an exquisite one-off. Buy it now or regret it always!

ThumbnailThis allegedly 'student' horn is simply a joy to play. Alexander sell these fine instruments as student or intermediate horns but it's really hard to see why. This particular horn plays every bit as well as any professional Alexander double we've ever had - and that's a lot of Alexanders!

Unusually for Alexander, it's in the Geyer wrap. It's free-blowing, notchy, easy to play, makes a beautiful, full, warm sound and has excellent intonation and response. It's in lacquered yellow brass with a detachable bell. The lacquer is in great condition, as is the horn as a whole - no dents, dings or scratches of any significance. It comes in a rather large, screw bell case in black.

Ideal for a serious amateur or a serious student: it's MUCH better than most so-called 'student' horns, many of which are all but unplayable. And it's not megabux - this is a bargain for someone!

ThumbnailThis is a fine example of Paxman's best-selling and famous double horn. Used by top players everywhere, these wonderful instruments are free-blowing and responsive and just delicious to play.

This horn is yellow brass (with hardly any lacquer missing) and has a large, fixed bell. So it makes a big, warm, creamy sound. It comes from a retiring professional player and has been very well looked after; valve compression is literally as good as new and there are just a few, tiny blemishes here and there - but, in truth, hardly anything.

It comes in a hard, black Paxman case which is also in good condition.

ThumbnailYet another fine example of Alexander's wonderful, best-selling full F/Bb double horn.

This instrument is of the older style - without the badge on the bell spout - which many players prefer to the less forgiving current model with the bell spout badge.

This horn is 30+ years old and in excellent condition - no patches at all, and only the odd, superficial blemish here and there. Lacquer is around 80% intact.

We've fully reconditioned it, of course, and it plays absolutely superbly: it's got a warm, mellow sound - slightly darker than one normally associates with a 103 - and all the registers play freely and easily. The valve compression is awesome - absolutely no leakage resulting from wear - and the valves are quick, smooth and fast. This horn benefits from coins on the valve levers and so is very comfortable for someone with smallish hands - there are no awkward stretches which one often experiences with these older 103s.

Although it's 30+ years old, it plays literally better than new AND it's in gold brass - wow!

ThumbnailThis is a standard Paxman 20M full F/Bb double horn. The Model 20 is Paxman's famous, best-selling horn, as used by top professionals the world over. This one is fitted with a medium bell - which makes a bright, perky sound - and at some point in its past there has been a conversion from fixed to detachable flare, obviously expertly executed. I'm afraid the horn comes with a fixed bell case, although we can obviously supply a screw bell case at extra cost.

This is a lovely, free-blowing instrument which has a good deal of lacquer wear but is nevertheless in excellent general condition and perfect playing condition.
